The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, formerly known as Chongqing Kuanren Hospital, was founded in 1892. Since its establishment, the hospital has adhered to the concept of "care, focus and innovation", and has become a national 3A hospital that integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and healthcare.

There are 2 branches (Yuzhong Branch and Jiangnan Branch), with 2,580 registered beds and more than 3,500 beds available. 

Yuzhong Branch is located at the Liberation Monument (the center of Chongqing CBD), No 74, Linjiang Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing covering an area of 14.5 acres. It has endured 126 years of development. The annual outpatient number is more than 1.31 million, while the annual inpatient number is more than 64,000. 

Jiangnan Branch is located at No 288, Tianwen Avenue, Nan'an District, Chongqing (Chayuan New Area), with a total construction area of 250,000 square meters. There are four buildings including a medical complex, an infection and liver disease center, a science and education building, and a general practitioner building. Its establishment will facilitate the people in southeastern and northeastern Chongqing, who had difficulty in seeking medical advice, balance the distribution of medical resources in Chongqing, and drive the development of western Chongqing.

The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University has a full range of specialties, and 44 clinical and medical technology departments. Internal medicine (infectious diseases) and neurology are its national key disciplines. Cardiovascular medicine, respiratory medicine, nephrology, medical imaging, and infectious diseases are also the national key clinical specialties. The clinical medicine is a first-level discipline and a provincial key discipline, and all of the 16 secondary disciplines affiliated to it are provincial key disciplines; Medical imaging, rehabilitation medicine and physiotherapy and internal medicine (infectious diseases) are municipal key medical disciplines. There are 13 municipal clinical diagnosis and treatment research centers and 10 municipal medical quality control centers. 

In recent years, more than 100 longitudinal scientific research projects were annually approved, including more than 30 projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation, nearly 200 SCI papers were published annually, and second prize and above of the Chongqing Science and Technology Award were awarded annually. In 2015, the research results of "Basic Research on Ultrasound Molecular Imaging and Therapy" won the first prize of the Chongqing Science and Technology Award (Natural Science). In 2016, three key projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation were approved. In 2017, the national key science and technology project "New Treatment Strategy and Method for Hepatitis B" was approved. In 2018, the national key research and development project-Digital diagnosis and treatment equipment was approved. 

As one of the oldest hospitals in western China, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University will build the Yuzhong Branch into a high-level, innovative and characteristic hospital in Chongqing CBD, and build the Jiangnan Branch into a high standard, ecological and international hospital!
