First Automatic Extracorporeal Defibrillator installed in Chongqing

Updated: 2019-05-31

On May 12, the 11th National Day for Disaster Prevention and Reduction, the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission and Chongqing Airport Group held the launching ceremony of the first batch of AEDs in public places of Chongqing and the 2019 disaster prevention and reduction publicity campaign at terminal 3 of Chongqing Jiangbei Airport.

Liu Kejia, a member of the Party committee and deputy director of the commission, attended and addressed the activity. Liu stressed that it's necessary to adopt effective measures to comprehensively enhance the awareness and ability of the masses about preventing, treating, and curing major disasters so they can rescue themselves and each other.

He suggested that the general public, for the purpose of self-rescue and to provide help to others, should proactively learn 14 health emergency skills, one of which is to know how and when to correctly utilize AEDs in case of accidental injury or illness.

This year the commission has installed 60 "amazing tools"—automatic external defibrillators -- in crowded public places to supplement the first-aid facilities in Chongqing.

The commission has been working on all fronts to upgrade public health and emergency response skills.

Its efforts included identifying 14 self-rescue and mutual-help skills that the public should acquire, compiling specialized curricula and manuals, developing training courses and assessment standards, building 54 training bases that cover all districts and counties, training 406 teachers, and launching a nationwide project to popularize self-rescue and mutual-help skills.
