In August 2023, the 18 advanced practices resulting from the building of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle were promoted nationwide by the National Development and Reform Commission.
Over the first three quarters of last year, the economic circle reported 5.9 trillion yuan ($821.87 billion) in regional GDP, a surge of 6.2 percent. Meanwhile, its industrial added value grew to 1.68 trillion yuan, up 6 percent year-on-year.
By the end of December 2023, major projects involved in the development of the economic circle had achieved 413.84 billion yuan in investment, surpassing the annual target.
Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality is expected to work with Chengdu Tianfu New Area to promote the development of modern industrial systems, sci-tech innovation, public services, and the fostering of talent.
The two new areas will encourage more innovative enterprises around the world to set up research institutions there, guide the matching of universities, enterprises and R&D institutes, and promote technology transfers and industrialization activities of all kinds.
Automobiles and electronics, as two pillar industries of the two places, will be the major areas of cooperation. In addition, eight major industrial flagship alliances will be leveraged to build a supporting industrial ecosystem.
