The high-end equipment industry in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, is currently centering on key products, and core cutting-edge technologies to intensify its R&D investment and improve its independent innovation capacity.
In 2022, the R&D expenditure of high-end equipment manufacturers above a designated size in the new area reached 1.33 billion yuan ($187.53 million), up 47 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, the new area has established 17 municipal corporate technology centers in this field.
To replace humans with robots has emerged as a significant approachfor traditional industries to become more high-end. As a pivotal smart manufacturing hub for Chongqing,Liangjiang has taken the initiative to establish a robot industrial park, and has formed a basic industrial chain forging research and development, machinery manufacturing, monitoring, system integration, spare part support, talent training, and application services.

To facilitate the dual carbon goal achieving, the new area has guided local enterprises to expand investments in energy saving, and adopt new technologies and craftsmanships to reduce the energy consumption and pollutant emissions.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
