Data shows that over the first quarter of this year, Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, reported investments totaling 52.6 billion yuan ($7.63 billion), an increase of 13 percent when compared with the same period last year. The involved projects cover new energy vehicles (NEVs), high-end equipment, life and health, and other areas.
Meanwhile, 16 projects have begun construction, and about 11 billion yuan in investments has been put into place during the first three months of this year.
Over the same period, the new area has formed and arranged business and investment promotion delegations to travel to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Hefei and other big cities to expand the area's business promotion network.
In January, the 2023 Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Global Business Promotion Conference was held, recruiting 11 industry insiders as global business promotion consultants for the new area. These include Michael Schumann, president of the Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade; and Li Kaiguo, former chairman of the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
