Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality is currently seeking to strengthen innovation in six aspects – industrial development, science and technology, reform and opening-up, regional coordination, city construction, and social governance.
With this goal in mind, the new area plans to bring in 10 new high-end research institutions for its major industries and intensify investment promotion efforts to expand businesses in emerging industrial fields and cultivate new economic growth poles.
Liangjiang is also focusing on attracting strategic scientific and technological personnel, leading figures and innovative teams to overcome technological bottlenecks. The 24th China Robot and Artificial Intelligence Competition (Chongqing Region) concluded at the end of May, with 85 teams selected to participate in the national finals on behalf of the municipality.
Amid efforts to reform the delegation of power, simplify procedures and optimize government services, Liangjiang has taken the lead in Chongqing, working with Yubei, Beibei and Jiangbei districts. Government affairs handled in any of the four regions are now recognized by the other three, contributing to the development of a more business-friendly environment.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
