Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality performed impressively in its modern service sector during the first half of 2021, with its service trade during the period valued at $1.02 billion, a year-on-year increase of 44.52 percent, according to local news reports on July 19.
"The modern service industry in the new area is gaining momentum," said Zheng Hang, director of the modern service bureau of Liangjiang.
Statistics show that the overall performance of the modern service sector is improving, and confidence in the macro-economy has increased.
Thanks to an effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the domestic market, the lodging and catering industries have experienced a rapid recovery, with the year-on-year turnover increases of enterprises above a designated size in the two industries reaching 97.6 percent and 76.9 percent, respectively.
The automobile consumption market continues to swell, and auto manufacturers above a designated size registered 13.63 billion yuan ($2.04 billion) in revenue, up 27.3 percent over the same period last year.
An official from the market department of Baoyu BMW Automobile Sales Servicshop said that their sales surged 45 percent in the first half of this year, largely due to the digitalization of the selling process in the shop.
NEVs have gradually become one of the shop's big sellers, as their sales rose by 133 percent year-on-year in the first six months of 2021, said the official.
Huge business districts have also seen increasing popularity in Liangjiang. The Chongqing Ring Shopping Park that opened in April has integrated its city functions with the natural environment. The park is also home to many fashionable retail brands and exotic dishes, satisfying the tastes of many different types of consumers.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
