To help the big data industry in Liangjiang New Area, China Mobile decided to build a data center in Chongqing. On June 30, the groundbreaking ceremony of China Mobile (Chongqing) Data Center's first-phase project was held in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area's International Cloud Computing Industrial Park. After completion, it will become the largest data center in Chongqing.
Weng Jieming, Ling Yueming and other city leaders attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
The Data Center will be one of the major projects in Chongqing's cloud computing internet big data industry. It is located in Liangjiang New Area's High-Tech Industrial Park, and covers over 120,000 square meters. After the project's full completion, it will have 13,000 equipment cabinets, capable of holding around 130,000 servers.
China Mobile Data Center's settling-down in Liangjiang New Area is one of the major infrastructures for China Mobile to build a base in western China so as to serve the country and the world. It will also add an excellent infrastructure and open platforms for Chongqing's cloud computing big data industry.
Big data is reported to be another new industry with a national strategic significance after cloud computing, the Internet of Things and mobile internet. Early in 2010, in response to the central government's readjustment of the industry's structure, the municipal government introduced "Cloud Plan" to reach the goal of promoting industrialization, urbanization and agricultural modernization through processing information.
It also built Liangjiang International Cloud Computing Industrial Park in Liangjiang New Area High-Tech Industrial Park. At present, Liangjiang New Area has attracted a series of enterprises into the industrial park, represented by China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, and Pacific Telecommunication.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
