In a national labor competition demonstrating how to promote regional development, Shuitu Industrial Park in Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing, is gearing itself up at just the right moment. While adjusting its industrial distribution, the new area gives high priority to the development of five industries, namely, cloud computing, displays, new technology lamps, robotics and digital medical techniques. The high-tech industries are growing in a cohesive way, demonstrating an innovative development model. This is a vivid reflection of the numerous innovative products in Liangjiang New Area.
As far as building up a labor force is concerned, the new area aims to create an elite, crack group with a pioneering spirit and sense of responsibility. The new area also focuses on major social concerns, economic development and the difficulties of enterprise management. Based on the strategic deployment of its development, the fields of competition were extended from conventional industries to new industries, from manufacturing to modern services; meanwhile, the competition attached more importance to technologies, benefits and innovation than it did to output and speed . As a result, all these competitive activities have promoted the advance of science and technology, technological innovation and industrial upgrading.
An official from Shuitu Industrial Park said that 65 key enterprises and projects have been set as the main focus in the zone to improve workers' cultural qualities and labor skills. Meanwhile, competitions based on workers' knowledge and their vision, mild manners, service quality, commission efficiency and the public’s praise have been carried out. Through departmental interaction, Jiangbei District strives to cultivate skilled professionals and serve as a guide for other districts. All those picked receive subsequent education in professional title evaluation, employment recommendation, entrepreneurial support, assessment in addition to many other areas, thus integrating the courses and results of the competition.
In the past year, Liangjiang New Area has held several competitions on project quality, safety in production, job scheduling, energy saving, technological innovation and business management. Hundreds of thousands of workers from over 500 companies in the new area have been competing with each other in teams. This contributes greatly to the rapid and eye-catching development of the New Area.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
