Liangjiang to initiate reforms for open-economy

Liangjiang New Area of Chongqing municipality will promote 40 reform programs concerning eight aspects this year, according to the Liangjiang administrative committee on March 11.

Focusing on the construction of a new open-economy system, the eight aspects involve reforms on innovative industry, construction of inland opening-up, the financial system, technology and talent, land use, State-owned enterprises, government functions, and urban and rural coordination.

A series of pilot programs focused on easing control of foreign investment, building cross-border e-commerce platforms and developing a national modern service industry will take place to construct the national reform experimental zone, according the Liangjiang administrative committee.

As the first national new area for development and opening up of inland China, Liangjiang has made efforts to form a gateway based on industries, platforms and channels. The GDP of Liangjiang reached 165 billion yuan ($26.88 billion) in 2013, with a year-on-year growth of 16 percent. The gross output value of industrial enterprises above a designated size reached 349.2 billion yuan, with total export-import volume surpassing $30.5 billion.
