Updated:2014-03-13

The Russian delegation come to China to take part in the Yangtze River-Volga River Cooperation Meeting.

Russian representatives hoped that the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Russia Railway will begin regular service during a visit to the Tuanjie village railway container station in Liangjiang New Area of Chongqing on Feb 26. The Russian delegation came to China to take part in the Yangtze River-Volga River Cooperation Meeting.

The Chongqing-Xinjiang-Russia Railway, whichi is near the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, will be able to transport goods to Moscow, the capital of Russia, directly.

Russia imports goods worth tens of billions of dollars from China's coastal areas. Transportation fees total roughly $8,500 per container, including loading goods and transporting goods by sea and road.

However, transporting goods by the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Russia Railway costs only $7,000 per container, and it only takes 11 days to transport goods from Chongqing to Moscow directly. The Chongqing-Xinjiang-Russia Railway began irregular service in January 2011. It has been in irregular use for three years since then. The Chongqing-Xinjiang-Russia Railway is expected to begin regular service immediately according to the Chongqing Municipal Logistics Office.

As cooperation between the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River abd the Volga River area deepens, goods transported to Russia have increased greatly. The regular Chongqing-Xinjiang-Russia international train is expected to start immediately.

The Chongqing-Xinjiang-Russia Railway promotes the mutual interests of China and Russia. Russia welcomes the regular operation of the international train. "Russia plans to establish bonded warehouses to reduce customs clearance time in order to make this international train more competitive and to push the regular operation of the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Russia international train," said Sukhov, deputy plenipotentiary in the Volga River region of Russia.
