An ancient Tang or Song dynasty town was recently unearthed in Chongqing municipality, Chongqing Morning Post reported.
Covering an area of more than 400,000 square meters, the ancient town, which was dug out on the Yangtze River bank in the city's Yongchuan district, includes an artery and many cobblestone lanes.
And a ceramic drainage ditch network connects every household in the town to drain off water to the Yangtze River. The houses were mainly built along the artery that reaches 3 meters wide.
"The scientific design of the drainage ditch network ensured the town to be able to withstand the heavy rainfall and storms," said Dai Yubiao, a local archaeologist at the scene.
Many ceramic kilns and tombs were found around the town.
"The ancient town has full-function and is of great value for studying the ancient architecture and the lifestyle of Tang and Song dynasties," Dai told local media.
Many ancient ceramic products were also unearthed in the ancient town.
