The Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (Women and Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University), or CQHCWC, in Southwest China's Chongqing, was commended as an outstanding hospital in the post-abortion care (PAC) public welfare project on April 16.

The recognition ceremony took place at the 10th-anniversary summary meeting of the PAC public welfare project, which was hosted by the China Women's Development Foundation and the Oligogenics Branch of the Chinese Medical Association in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province.

The meeting reviewed and summarized the achievements and highlights of the PAC public welfare project over the past 10 years. It shared experiences on project implementation, with a focus on multidimensional explorations on how to better protect female reproductive health.

At the meeting, 14 outstanding PAC hospitals across the country were commended, including CQHCWC, which is the only one from Chongqing.

CQHCWC is the first medical organization in Chongqing to launch the PAC public welfare project in 2012. During its 10-year implementation, the hospital was recognized as a "PAC regional demonstration hospital" and a "PAC long-acting contraceptive training base".

By organizing specialized activities, CQHCWC has improved PAC services overall. Such activities include provincial-level continuing education training courses, hosting the West China PAC experience exchange meeting, and guiding grass-root hospitals in PAC-related services. Moreover, CQHCWC also conducted public welfare activities, and provided doctors from hospitals across the country with PAC micro-refresher courses, in order to further improve PAC for patients.

Over the past 10 years, CQHCWC had provided high-quality PAC services for more than 140,000 women, forming a standardized PAC service model that has reduced the repeat abortion rate in the region to below 1 percent.

Relying on the national PAC service platform, CQHCWC will continue to improve its PAC services, serve as a demonstration hospital in the region, and promote PAC work to new heights, with the aim of protecting the reproductive health of all women of childbearing age.
