The Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (Women and Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University) in Southwest China's Chongqing recently got the green light to construct the Chongqing center for disease control, prevention and public health research.

The approval of the project was announced by the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission.

The project is among the first batch of development projects for four major centers for medical science and technology innovation in Chongqing.

The Chongqing center for disease control, prevention and public health research aims to carry out prospective and ground-breaking basic application research or clinical research. That's on key scientific issues such as major diseases and handling of public health emergencies in the field of disease prevention and public health.

The goal is to provide effective technical support for improving the capabilities in disease prevention, control and public health services in Chongqing – as well as for the prevention and treatment of major newly-found and sudden infectious diseases.

As the only provincial-level maternal and child health care institution in Chongqing, the CQHCWC has integrated the services of three divisions – namely the Maternal Health Division, the Children's Health Care Division and the Women's Health Care Division – offering full life-cycle health services for women and children in the city.

Taking the approval as an opportunity, plans are for the CQHCWC to continue to carry out prospective and ground-breaking basic application research and public health research focused on major health issues faced by women and children.

It will strive to become a high-level disease prevention, control and public health research center in the field of maternal and child health in the country.
