A prenatal education concert -- hosted by the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children, or the CQHCWC – was successfully staged in Chongqing Grand Theater on Dec 7, with more than 600 pregnant women and their families participating.

Jiang Qiujing, deputy director of the Maternal and Child Health Education Department of the CQHCWC, attended the concert and expressed her best wishes to the participants.

Jiang said that an important goal was to help scientifically with a pregnant women's hearing, vision, psychology and other aspects – in order to stabilize the emotions during pregnancy, while helping the fetal brain nervous system and the functions of various organs to be properly developed and trained.

The organizers said that a renowned local symphony orchestra embarked on a wonderful musical journey for the audience, allowing them to indulge that night in the soft melodies of a series of prenatal education music.

Dr. Li Qiyin from the Department of Maternal and Child Psychology at the CQHCWC, also gave a lecture to teach pregnant mothers and their families how to maintain a happy mood and how to deal with depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Preliminary research findings showed that infants who receive systematic prenatal musical stimulation are more likely to show enhanced attention behavior, as well as to tend to imitate accurately sounds made by adults, according to an academic paper published in the Music Educators Journal.

The paper also suggested that these babies also appear to structure vocalization much earlier than those who did not have prenatal musical stimulation.
