The three-step nuclear energy strategy, which refers to the building of thermal reactors, fast reactors and fusion reactors step by step, was put forward at a national symposium on the technologies and policies for the development of nuclear energy in December 1983.

The thematic forum aimed to explore the implementation path of the country's three-step nuclear energy strategy, make analyses of its development trends, promote the formation of industrial consensus, and ensure the safe as well as orderly utilization of nuclear energy.

Four nuclear experts, Du Xiangwan, Ye Qizhen, Ye Guoan and Luo Delong, shared with attendees about their latest research results and personal understanding of the implementation of the three-step nuclear energy strategy, providing participants with inspirations and reference.

Meanwhile, attending experts and academicians held in-depth talks about key issues in the implementation of the three-step nuclear energy strategy. They also spoke about the development trends of global nuclear energy, the technologies in the building of fast reactors, and the prospect of nuclear fusion technology, and emphasized the utmost importance of the three-step nuclear energy strategy to the development of nuclear energy.

At last, they asked the country to further promote the implementation of the three-step nuclear energy strategy, step up its efforts in technological innovation and personnel training, and push for the development of nuclear energy in a safe, order and sustainable manner.

Attendees said that they will take this forum as an opportunity to forge consensus and take efforts to promote the further development of nuclear energy in a safe, orderly and sustainable manner under the guidance of the three-step nuclear energy strategy.
