China, Russia deepen nuclear energy ties

China National Nuclear Corporation signed several major agreements with Russia's state nuclear agency Rosatom on Nov 6, during the ongoing second China International Import Expo in Shanghai, according to reports.

The projects will further deepen nuclear energy cooperation between China and Russia, officials said.

CNNC representatives participated in the Chinese-Foreign Enterprise Cooperation Forum hosted by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administrative Commission of the State Council.

There they signed a contract with their counterparts at Rosatom on nuclear fuel supply for units 3 & 4 at the Xudapu nuclear power plant, located in northeastern Liaoning province.

Later, CNNC hosted a contract signing ceremony for Russian companies. CNNC Jianzhong Nuclear Fuel Co Ltd and China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation signed agreements with Rosatom on purchase of fuel parts and shipping cask, and on TVS-2006 fuel technology transfers.

The China Institute of Atomic Energy and China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation also signed three purchase contracts with the Russian mechanical manufacturing experimental bureau on experimental fast reactors.

Experts say the nuclear industry is a key sector of China-Russia cooperation.

Last year, CNNC and Rosatom reached cooperation agreements on units 7 & 8 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant and the Xudapu nuclear power plant, as well as equipment supplies and services purchases for China’s demonstration fast reactor.

Officials said that over the years, CNNC and Rosatom have broadened their cooperation and are moving to further improve their ties.
