The scarcity of soap and spigots used to clean hands is a problem afflicting 72 percent of households in Timor-Leste.
Funded by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund established by China, the China International Development Cooperation Agency collaborated with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund and local partners in Timor-Leste to provide 1,900 sanitation supplies kits to the residents in four flood-hit areas in the country. Supplementary training programs were also launched to help more than 10,000 people maintain personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness.
"I am glad to receive the kit. Now, we can put water into the bucket for days, not having to worry about dirtiness or diseases," said Miranda, a 13-year-old girl living in a village prone to flood in Baucau municipality.
