On May 27, 2024, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Luo Zhaohui met with Inger Andersen, under-secretary-general of the United Nations and executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Luo said that the Chinese government is committed to green and low-carbon development, and strives to establish a new pattern of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. He introduced the CIDCA's efforts in climate change response and green development, as well as the progress made in implementing the Global Development Initiative (GDI). The CIDCA is ready to further strengthen cooperation with the UNEP to jointly advance the implementation of the GDI and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he added.
Anderson highly commended China's leading role and remarkable achievements in international cooperation on ecological conservation and environmental governance, saying that the UNEP is willing to leverage its expertise to deepen cooperation with the CIDCA, focusing on Africa and Asia. The cooperation will center on biodiversity conservation, pollution control and food waste reduction. The two sides can also jointly address global climate and environmental challenges, and promote green and sustainable development, Anderson added.
