CIDCA chairman meets with foreign minister of Tanzania

On May 14, 2024, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Luo Zhaohui met with Foreign Minister of Tanzania January Makamba.

Luo highlighted the enduring traditional friendship between China and Tanzania, fostered by older generations of leaders of the two countries, which has withstood the test of international changes. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the presidents of the two countries, the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries continues to advance. China is ready to join hands with Tanzania to implement the important consensus reached between the leaders of both countries, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), and leverage the upcoming summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to achieve more results in bilateral development cooperation and set a model of South-South cooperation, he said.

Makamba extended his appreciation to China for its long-term support to Tanzania's socioeconomic development and the improvement of the people's livelihoods in the country. He expressed admiration of China's achievements in modernization and spoke highly of and pledged active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and GDI. Tanzania looks forward to working closely with China, learning from its development experience, and expanding cooperation in such areas as infrastructure, agriculture, poverty reduction, digital communication and capacity building, in a bid to elevate bilateral ties to a new height, he added.

The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific development assistance projects.  

Vice-Chairman of the CIDCA Liu Junfeng, Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Bai Bin, and Tanzanian Ambassador to China Khamis Mussa Omar also attended the meeting.
