On April 26, 2024, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Luo Zhaohui met with K.P. Sharma Oli, chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) and former Nepalese prime minister, during his visit to the South Asian country.
Luo said that China and Nepal are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers and have always treated each other with mutual respect and equality. The two countries have stood in solidarity, helped each other, and achieved mutual benefit through cooperation, he said.
Noting the vast potential for cooperation between the two countries, Luo said that China is ready to join hands with Nepal to implement the important consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries, deepen political mutual trust, strengthen the exchange of experience in state governance, expand practical cooperation in various fields, and boost people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
Efforts will also be made to advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, accelerate the building of the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network, and promote the implementation of the China-proposed three major global initiatives on development, security, and civilization, Luo added.
Oli mentioned the historic visit to Nepal by the Chinese leadership in 2019, which elevated bilateral ties to new heights. He said that his party is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Communist Party of China (CPC) and that Nepal's new coalition government will take the national interests and the people's well-being as top priority, push for the country's political, economic, social and cultural development, and strive for new development of bilateral relations and pragmatic cooperation with China.
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song, Director-General of the CIDCA's First Department of Regional Affairs Shou Hailong, and Acting Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Li Ming also attended the meeting.
On the same day, Luo also met with Sher Bahadur Deuba, president of the Nepali Congress and former prime minister, with whom he exchanged views on strengthening relations between the CPC and the Nepali Congress.
