On Dec 7, 2023, Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Secretary for Ministry of Economic Affairs of Pakistan Kazim Niaz, who was in China to attend the second China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Cooperation.
Noting that China and Pakistan are "ironclad" brothers, Luo said that Pakistan was one of the first countries to support the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative. The two sides have jointly promoted the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and have yielded fruitful results in cooperation in such areas as infrastructure, people’s livelihoods, and human resources development, Luo said. China is ready to work with Pakistan to jointly implement the key consensus reached between the two heads of state, further expand cooperation in the blue economy, and carry out more "small yet smart" projects while maintaining cooperation on major projects, in order to benefit both countries and their people, he added.
Niaz thanked China for its long-term assistance and support to Pakistan in its socioeconomic development. He said that this forum is bound to propel the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Indian Ocean region and inject new impetus into the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-30). Pakistan stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China, and continue to deepen the traditional friendship and all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, he added.
Vice-Chairman of the CIDCA Liu Junfeng and deputy director-generals of the CIDCA's Department of Policy and Planning and the First Department of Regional Affairs Li Ming and Wang Daohao also attended the meeting.
