CIDCA chairman meets with Nicaraguan president adviser

On Nov 8, 2023, Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Presidential Adviser of the Republic of Nicaragua Laureano Ortega Murillo, who is in China to attend the sixth China International Import Expo.

Luo said that since the resumption of diplomatic ties between China and Nicaragua, bilateral relations have developed rapidly, yielding positive results in development cooperation. Noting that Nicaragua is an important partner of China in Latin America, Luo said China is willing to strengthen development cooperation with the country in such areas as poverty reduction, agriculture, health, infrastructure, information and communications, and vocational education, in order to deliver more projects that benefit people's livelihoods. China is ready to work with Nicaragua to jointly build the Belt and Road to a high standard, and promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), to continuously reinforce and develop bilateral ties, he said.

Laureano thanked the Chinese government and people for their support to the socioeconomic development of his country, and pledged to actively support the China-proposed GDI, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative. He said that Nicaragua is ready to work closely with China to build a model of cooperation between China and Latin American countries, and raised his hope for more support from China in bilateral development cooperation, investment and major infrastructure construction.

The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation projects and signed related cooperation agreements.

Nicaraguan Finance Minister Ivan Adolfo Acosta Montalvan, Minister of Development, Industry, and Trade Jesus Bermudez, Ambassador to China Michael Campbell, and Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Bai Bin also attended the meeting.
