CIDCA chairman meets with special envoy of Maldivian president-elect

On Oct 20, 2023, Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Mohamed Saeed, special envoy of the president-elect of the Maldives, who was in China to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Luo conveyed his congratulation to Mohamed Muizzu on his election as president of the Maldives at the meeting. He said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Maldives relations have maintained steady development, with deepened pragmatic cooperation yielding fruitful results. China is ready to work with the Maldives to jointly implement the key consensus reached between the two heads of state, and actively explore development cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative (GDI), he said.

Saeed said that China has been providing a large amount of assistance to the Maldives for a long time, without interfering in internal affairs or attaching political strings, which has been highly appreciated by the Maldivian government and people. The Maldives is ready to work with China to jointly build the Belt and Road to a high standard, and will actively support the GDI in a bid to yield more results from bilateral cooperation, he added.
