On Sept 26, 2023, Vice-Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Tang Wenhong met with Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, cabinet secretary for the Ministry of Roads and Transport of Kenya, to exchange views on promoting bilateral development cooperation.
Affirming the traditional friendship between the two countries, Tang said that the pragmatic bilateral cooperation between China and Kenya has continued to deepen over the years under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state. China is willing to work with Kenya to take the implementation of relevant initiatives such as the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the China-Africa Leaders' Dialogue as opportunities to innovate ways of cooperation, deliver more cooperation outcomes, and promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation as well as the continuous development of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, he said.
Murkomen pointed out that the China-Kenya cooperation in railway and road infrastructure projects has made significant achievements, playing an important role in Kenya's socioeconomic development and the improvement of people's livelihoods. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Kenya and China, and the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries has entered a "new stage and new height", he noted.
He also said that Kenya firmly supports the China-proposed GDI, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, firmly upholds the one-China principle, and looks forward to expanding cooperation with China in such fields as infrastructure and vocational education in a bid to achieve more outcomes in bilateral pragmatic cooperation.
The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation matters. Deputy Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Zhang Lihua also attended the meeting.
