Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Ambassador of Canada to China Jennifer May on May 5, 2023.
Luo noted that China and Canada have made great achievements in political, economic and cultural cooperation over the past five decades since the establishment of bilateral ties, which has brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries. Both being key players in international development cooperation, China is ready to strengthen dialogue and carry out trilateral cooperation with Canada in such areas as poverty alleviation and climate change, in a bid to jointly implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and contribute to the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Luo said.
He introduced China's work in foreign aid and progress in implementing the GDI, and expressed his hope that all parties can reinforce their consensus on achieving the sustainable development goals, highlight the United Nations' leading role, promote the South-North cooperation, and achieve common development through joint action.
May acknowledged the common concerns between China and Canada in international development cooperation, and pledged to strengthen communication with China in areas such as climate change, promote the continuous development of Canada-China ties, and jointly help other countries achieve the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
