The Cape Coast Sports Stadium is located in Cape Coast, capital of Ghana's Central province. It has a total construction area of about 15,800 square meters and a capacity of 15,000 spectators at the same time, and was constructed with aid from China.
The stadium includes athletic fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, handball courts, tennis courts, boxing training grounds and gymnasiums.
Since its commissioning in April 2016, the Cape Coast Stadium has successfully hosted many national events for Ghana and large-scale international sporting events for West Africa and Africa at large. It has become a landmark sports building in Ghana and helped Ghana realize its dream of becoming a strong nation in sports.
The normal operation of the facilities and equipment is indispensable for a successful sporting event, and the hard work and dedication of the staff of Ghana and China is also vital.
As early as before the stadium's handover, the Chinese side began to train the technicians of the stadium systems for monitoring, sound reinforcement, display, lighting and other professional systems for Ghana to ensure the normal operation of the stadium after the handover.
"Thanks to the Chinese government and people, I have learned a lot of skills here. I knew nothing about electronics before, but with the help of my Chinese friends, I learned to operate the monitoring system. Before each event, I check the monitoring system that I am in charge of to make sure no problems happen during the event," said a technician at the Cape Coast Stadium, adding, "As a part of this stadium, I'm proud to be involved in this program, especially when the audience on the field praises our work after each match. I'm immensely happy."
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese experts have stayed at their posts, continuing to give training to local technicians and working together with them to maintain the stadium's hardware and software facilities.
