CIDCA vice-chairman meets with WMO assistant secretary-general

Zhang Maoyu, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Zhang Wenjian, assistant secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), on Dec 16.

Zhang Wenjian described the WMO's latest progress on preventing and reducing catastrophes and its financial system supporting meteorological observations, and thanked China for its long-time support for the WMO's work on improving the climate observation capacity of its member countries. He said the WMO is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the CIDCA and improve developing countries' ability to prevent and reduce catastrophes and to cope with climate change.

Zhang Maoyu said that international meteorological cooperation is related to people's livelihoods, and provides important guarantees for developing countries' economic and social development. The Chinese government pays important attention to meteorological cooperation with other countries and international organizations.

He added that the CIDCA is willing to strengthen practical cooperation with the WMO, work jointly to implement the Global Development Initiative, and help other developing counties to achieve the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
