Celebrating 100th anniversary of CPC | China-funded schools bring hope to children in Burkina Faso

CIDCA| Updated: 2021-11-29

A China-funded school officially went into use in the village of Zamsin, about 90 kilometers away from Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, in April 2019.

About 300 students, who used to attend classes in thatched sheds, moved in their new classrooms.

The school is part of a special initiative that the Chinese government decided to help Burkina Faso build 113 new primary schools when the two countries resumed diplomatic relations in 2018.

The new school has fundamentally improved education facilities in Burkina Faso, helped the country further raise the education level of its people and better eliminate poverty,  representing the concrete efforts made by the two countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Speaking at the school’s inaugural ceremony, Kiemde Cudralaaogo, coordinator of the parent committee of the school, said in the old days children had to suspend their classes and ask their parents to help repair their shabby classrooms on windy and rainy days.

Thanks to the assistance of the Chinese government, the children now have a new school building and reliable access to safe drinking water, Cudralaaogo said. He added that the school will bring a brighter future for the children, hoping that they can grow up and bloom like cotton, which is a major agricultural product and symbol of happiness, auspiciousness and longevity in the culture of Burkina Faso.
