Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Palitha Kohona, Sri Lankan ambassador to China, on Oct 14.

Director-General of the CIDCA's First Department of Regional Affairs Bai Bin, Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Tian Lin and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Sri Lankan Embassy in China K.K. Yoganaadan also attended the meeting.

Luo said China and Sri Lanka have traditional friendship which has been further sublimated by their joint efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and overcome difficulties.

China is willing to deepen cooperation with Sri Lanka in the fight against the pandemic, continue to provide assistance in need within its capacity, and carry out more cost-effective and efficient projects to improve livelihoods in various fields, including healthcare, education and agriculture, said Luo.

Kohona thanked China for its long-standing assistance for the social and economic development of Sri Lanka. Especially since the outbreak of COVID-19, China has provided a large amount of anti-pandemic materials and vaccine assistance to Sri Lanka, making outstanding contributions to its economic recovery.

Kohona said Sri Lanka, with a large agricultural population and a low penetration rate of higher education, hopes to receive more support and assistance from China in the fields of education and training, and to achieve more cooperation results.
