Wang Yi: China has always been staunch supporter of, active participant in, and important contributor to South-South cooperation

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended and addressed the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund and the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development on July 8.

Wang said that South-South cooperation is a great initiative by which developing countries seek strength through unity. China, as the world's largest developing country, has always been a staunch supporter of, active participant in, and important contributor to South-South cooperation.

He said that in South-South cooperation, China always follows the principles of equality and mutual trust. China always honors commitments, delivers results, focus on development, gives top priority to people's livelihoods, and adapts to the development strategies and plans of specific countries. China not only helps when help is urgently needed, but also passes on knowledge and expertise. China never attaches political strings, never meddles in other countries' domestic affairs and never does things superficially.

In South-South cooperation, China always pursues the goal of mutual benefits. It always follows the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. China always shares opportunities and dividends with fellow developing countries. China has carried out, in over 160 developing countries, several thousand complete projects and aid supplies projects and over 10,000 technical cooperation and human resource development projects, and provided over 400,000 training opportunities. It is an impressive scorecard in the field of foreign assistance and international development cooperation, said Wang.

In South-South cooperation, China always adheres to the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance. Over the past year, China has stood together with other developing countries in meeting the severe challenges of COVID-19. To date, China has provided supplies to over 160 countries and international organizations, and provided vaccines to over 100 countries. China has been doing everything it can to build a life-saving line of defence and boost the economic recovery for developing countries.
