China shares COVID-19 control experience with African countries

On Mar 18, China and African countries had their first expert videoconference on the prevention and control of COVID-19. About 300 people attended via video link, including the health ministers of Ethiopia, Kenya and Liberia, the deputy director of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (AFRICA CDC), other government officials, health experts from 24 African countries, and some local WHO representatives.

Chinese officials briefed China’s latest progress in fighting the COVID-19, pointed out the Chinese government and people have taken the most comprehensive, thorough, and strictest preventive measures and achieved a continuously improving positive trend.

Meanwhile, China's efforts have also made important contributions to global public health security. China will continue to uphold the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, and actively carry out international cooperation in epidemic prevention and control in an open, transparent and highly responsible manner.

China is a good friend, trusty partner, and close brother to many African countries. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in China, African countries and regional organizations have given China solid and valuable support in different ways, which fully reflects the brotherhood of China and Africa through thick and thin, and has become a true portrayal of a closer China and Africa community of shared future.

At present, confirmed cases have occurred in many countries in Africa, and the epidemic situation is getting worse. While strengthening its own epidemic prevention, China is willing to share its experience in fighting the epidemic with African countries without reservation and actively provide support and assistance within its capacity.

The African officials and experts spoke highly of China's remarkable achievements in fighting the epidemic and making important contributions to global public health security, and thanked China for holding the videoconference to introduce its experience of epidemic prevention and control.

They all agreed that China provides African countries with a good example in epidemic prevention and control, and that the Chinese experience sets important standards and examples for African countries to respond to the epidemic. 

The African side sincerely hopes to strengthen cooperation with China and win the fight against the epidemic. 

Experts from Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Peking University First Hospital, and Ningbo Customs introduced the development trends and characteristics of the epidemic situation in detail, as well as China's experience and practices in prevention and control, clinical treatment, and customs border inspection, and answered nearly 50 questions of all kinds.

The videoconference was co-sponsored by the Department of African Affairs of China's Foreign Ministry, the Department of International Cooperation of the National Health Commission of China, and Chinese embassies in various African countries.
