Wang Xiaotao, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Peter Sands, executive director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, on Feb 28.

Sands said that China, as the world's largest developing country, has a global leading position in the field of infectious disease prevention and control, and is expected to achieve the national goal of eliminating malaria by 2020. In recent years, China has realized a transition from the second largest recipient of the Global Fund to a donor country, and the cooperation between the two sides has entered a new stage of rapid development. The Global Fund and the CIDCA have strengthened cooperation in the field of combating malaria and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis.

Wang said that the prevention and control of infectious diseases is an important area for China's foreign aid. The CIDCA and the Global Fund have the same goals and respective advantages in the fight against AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, and their cooperation has broad prospects. The CIDCA is willing to enhance mutual understanding with the Global Fund and explore ways to improve the control of infectious diseases in developing countries through tripartite cooperation.
