CIDCA vice-chairman meets with UN assistant secretary-general for disaster reduction

Zhang Maoyu, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Mami Mizutori, UN assistant secretary-general for disaster reduction, on Jan 14.

Mizutori introduced the functions of the United Nations Office for Disaster Reduction. She said the office is the only body in the UN system entirely focused on disaster reduction. It is willing to enhance communication with China and carry out cooperation in the field of disaster management.

Zhang said the Chinese government participates in major international disaster relief operations actively with a “people-oriented” spirit. China is generous in helping recipient countries mitigate the impact of disasters and improve disaster response capacity. The CIDCA is willing to strengthen cooperation with the UN office. The two sides could jointly promote the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the field of disaster reduction.
