The World Metaverse Conference, with the theme of "Insight into the Metaverse, Digital New Space", was held in person and online in the Beijing Daxing Economic Development Zone (BDEDZ) on Aug 26.

During the opening ceremony, Cao Jianguo, chairperson of the Chinese Simulation Federation (CSF), said that the metaverse is a virtual world linked and created by scientific and technological means, capable of mapping and interacting with the real world. It provides more intelligent simulation demonstrations and methods. The CSF should give full play to its leading role, and integrate cutting-edge scientific and technological results to promote the sustainable development of the metaverse.

Long Teng, president of the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), pointed out that the metaverse also  provides the means by which mankind can explore some major challenges, including the environment, epidemics and conflicts. BIT will carry out in-depth research on the metaverse, conductingvirtual world security risk assessments and monitoring digital economy global governance.

"The metaverse industry is characterized by multi-technology integration, human-machine-material interaction, and the combination of the digital and physical world, which breeds new business formats in cultural tourism, medical health, financial technology and other fields," said Li Tao, a staff member of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information (BMBEI).

He added that the metaverse will bring opportunities for the capital's software and information service industry, and is the focus of building a benchmark city for a global digital economy.

Liu Xueliang, deputy Party chief of Beijing's Daxing district, noted that Daxing has taken the digital economy as a driving force to accelerate the district's industries in recent years. The district has established a range of facilities to boost its pilot digital trade zone, such as a data cross-border service platform and an offshore transaction inspection platform.

The conference is sponsored by the CSF, the BIT and the BDEDZ, with the help of the China Association for Science and Technology and the BMBEI.
