Beijing’s Daxing district will strictly enforce its newly revised garbage-sorting regulation this year to help guide residents' participation in garbage classification, according to the Beijing Daxing People's government.

Daxing has stepped up efforts in rural sanitation and the district is expected to complete the clearance and transportation of domestic garbage.

Domestic neighborhood trash sorting will also be carried out this year to complete the whole process of garbage disposal, collection and transport.

The streets, villages and towns in Daxing plan to set up waste classification areas. Regulations for garbage sorting and residential community waste classification, as well as trash sorting, collection and transport will be implemented on a town level.

The transport of mixed garbage will be forbidden and domestic garbage sorting will be strictly controlled at the source.

The building of waste-processing facilities will be sped up this year. Daxing encourages residents not to waste food at home or in restaurants and will unveil a catalog of single-use items designed to restrict the use of disposables.

The collection of these types of materials, which can either be recycled or processed for further utilization, is expected to result in a significant reduction in the district's residual waste, most of which goes to landfills.

The district’s Party and government organs, schools, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, and other enterprises will  carry out garbage classification by the end of April.
