Liuminying Village was acknowledged in 1986 by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) as China's first model ecological village. Building on the existing ecological farm of the village, the ecological agriculture science park features a concept of sustainability, with integrated functions of exhibition, education, entertainment, interaction, sight-seeing and tourism. It is the outcome of years of efforts in constructing new-style socialist rural areas, and serves as a window to demonstrate the results of ecological agriculture in Liumingying Village. It is also a pioneer in science education with functions of education, training, and practice. It has an ecological agriculture exhibition area, a pollution-free organic vegetable technology exhibition area, a pollution-free tourist product manufacturing area, an international ecological agriculture research and training center, an area for comprehensive application of bio-gas and solar energy, a folk art tour, a kids'farm, the Beijing Green Civilization Education Center for Youth, the China Dandelion Rural Children's Cultural Park, the International Eco-Academic Research and Training Center, an eco-manor resort, a zoo and hotel, a theatre and restaurant, as well as fitness and entertainment facilities.
