The first phase of the Wuxi Institute of Foods for Special Dietary Use and Nutrition started operating in Wuxi National Hi-tech District on Aug 25.

Established by the district's government and a team led by Chen Wei from Jiangnan University, the research institute is aimed at bolstering the special food industry in the high-tech district. It will be dedicated to scientific exploration, technological innovation, and industrial incubation in the realm of foods for special dietary use.

The first phase boasts 3,000 square meters of standard factories which are already equipped with an automated raw probiotics production line. The second phase, spanning around 15,000 square meters, is currently under construction and will include facilities such as pilot production lines, research laboratories, and shared spaces for incubating enterprises.

An agreement on establishing the headquarters of Jiangyibeikang was also signed that same day. The company will draw upon the resources and technologies of the research institute to provide customers with raw probiotics, leavening agents, plant protection products, and customized services. With an initial investment of 300 million yuan ($41.22 million), it is projected to achieve annual sales of over 800 million yuan after reaching full production.

Several enterprises in the special food industry, including Bloomage Biotech and Glory Nutrition Technology Co Ltd, also signed agreements to establish a presence in the Wuxi National Hi-tech District.
