The environment and biodiversity of the park along the Taihu Lake has been steadily improving over the years. One hundred and fifty varieties of birds, including 17 that are under national protection, and 331 varieties of plants, have been spotted in the park to date.
WND has in recent years taken a series of measures to protect the natural environment near the Taihu Lake. For example, fishing has been banned in the lake since 2020 and farming is also not allowed within a 2-kilometer radius of the lake. A center that can treat 5,000 metric tons of blue-green algae per day was also built to improve the lake's water quality.
Bike lanes, walking paths, and children's parks have been built in the Daxigang Wetland Park and a variety of educational activities have also been held to encourage the public to appreciate nature.
