The opening ceremony of the Wuxi Meili Site Museum was held in the Wuxi National Hi-tech District on Sept 23.
The museum is built on the original site of ruins in Shang and Zhou Dynasties (c.16th century - 256 BC), with a total construction area of 1,941 square meters of six exhibition areas.
Through the exhibition of 355 relics, scene reproduction, and interactive experience, it shows the discovery of archaeological sites and basic principles of archaeology, the cultural connotation of excavated relics, the comparison of regional archaeological cultures, the canal and the primitive porcelain, the dissemination of ethical culture and the influence of Taibo on future generations.
During the ceremony, the Wu Culture Archaeological Research Base was established.
In July 2018, the local government launched the second phase construction of Meili Ancient Town, a cultural tourism project featuring Wu culture. Through excavation, archaeologists discovered pottery pieces from the Shang and Zhou Dynasties and scattered remains such as ash pits and ash ditches, marking the beginning of the discovery of the Meli ruins.
