GE Healthcare, a subsidiary of US conglomerate General Electric, launched a new generation of ultrasound products, the fifth-generation Fortis series of whole body ultrasound products, at its Wuxi base on Nov 25.
According to the company, it took 14 months from the research and development period to the official launch of the product, which is the fastest turnaround time for GE's ultrasound products. It is also the first medical device made in China in GE's high-end ultrasound series products.
Meng Fanjie, general manager of the R&D department of GE Healthcare Ultrasound China, noted that the new product based on the software beam imaging platform has superior performance. With strong computing power, it can achieve faster image information transmission and clearer images, which can greatly improve the clinical functions and work for precision medicine.
The clinical study of the product was conducted at Wuxi People's Hospital for more than three months, aiming to improve its design details based on the collected feedback to better meet the actual clinical needs of Chinese customers.
The Wuxi base is one of GE's largest R&D centers in the world. Since its establishment in 1996, the annual output value of the Wuxi base has increased exponentially. To date, the Wuxi base has obtained nearly 170 international and domestic patents. It has become GE Healthcare's largest ultrasound product innovation center and production base for medical products, such as ventilators, anesthesia machines, as well as monitors.
