The Wuxi National Hi-tech District held a forum on the planning of Taihu Bay Science and Technology City on Aug 28, aiming to promote the high-quality construction of the new city with top-level design of space planning.
Wu Zhiqiang, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, put forward three suggestions under the combination of the actual development and vision goals of WND.
First, the construction of the Taihu Bay Science and Technology Innovation Belt should make use of the advantages of WND and Wuxi. The construction of the central axis core area should cater to the needs of young people to create a vibrant neighborhood. The ecological area along Taihu Lake should be developed into a unique branded park.
Second, the transformation and development of the area must highlight the value of the post-industrial era. It is suggested that the center of the Grand Canal be used as the starting area in the near future to create scattered green spaces, demolish and rebuild inefficient old factories, and create a vibrant block near the canal.
Third, an efficient and dynamic urban space must emphasize the combined use of land. A well-defined functional zone made for the quick establishment of an urban development pattern neglected interaction with the people, which should now be taken into consideration.
WND Party Secretary Jiang Min agreed with Wu's suggestions and urged all related department to offer their full support.
