WND makerspaces, sci-tech incubators recognized provincially

(wndonline.cn)Updated: 2021-08-10

A total of four makerspaces and two technology business incubators based in Wuxi National Hi-tech District were expected to become provincial ones, according to the proposed 2021 lists of provincial-level makerspaces and science and technology business incubators recently released by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology.

The four makerspaces included Intellectual Future Sports and COCOSPACE. The two technology business incubators were Zhongke Wisdom and the Southeast Science and Technology Innovation Center. The total number of shortlisted candidates ranked first in Wuxi.

WND has been working for years to build a full-chain incubation and cultivation system for sci-tech businesses. The system, with makerspaces, incubators, accelerators, and industrial parks at the core, is developing at a rapid rate with specialized, market-oriented, as well as capitalized operations.

As of the end of 2020, nearly 2.5 million square meters of technological entrepreneurship incubation carriers led by state-owned, private, and leading enterprises have been built in the district, with nearly 2,000 enterprises settled in them. The annual operating income of these enterprises is about 49.5 billion yuan.

WND is now home to 15 makerspaces above municipal level, 19 sci-tech business incubators and three accelerators above municipal level, as well as two provincial level makerspace communities.
