The first phase of Huahong Group's integrated circuit (IC) research and development, as well as manufacturing center in Wuxi National Hi-tech District (WND) realized full operation in May.
The first phase is now able to produce 40,000 sets of IC chips a month, with a processing technology platform that includes emerging applications like mobile communications, the internet of things, smart homes, artificial intelligence, and new energy vehicles.
The facility, which has a total investment value of more than $10 billion, boasts the largest-ever single investment in Wuxi. It is also the first production facility that Huahong Group has invested in outside Shanghai.
The project's construction began in March 2018 and the first photolithography machines were installed in the plant in June 2019. The first phase of the Wuxi center officially started operations two months later.
According to the company, the Wuxi center is expected to meet the market's demand for medium- and high-end integrated circuit chip products.
The project is also a practical measure by Wuxi in cooperating with Shanghai to deepen the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, according to officials.
The IC industry is one of Wuxi's pillar industries and drives the growth of the city's foreign trade. Data from the local commerce bureau showed that the annual foreign trade related to the IC industry amounted to about $15 billion.
