Wuxi's first special export train, carrying local home appliance goods by Midea Little Swan Co, recently departed from Wuxi South Railway Station for Shanghai Yangshan Port.
Products from the company based in Wuxi National Hi-tech District will arrive at Shanghai within one to two days and then go abroad by sea.
Since the sea-rail combined transport route was put into operation on Dec 1 last year, a total of 38 trains, carrying 33,750 tons of cargo, have operated on the route, according to officials.
A person in charge of the project said that the sea-rail combined transport has become an important overseas export channel in Wuxi, providing solid support for the city to promote the adjustment of its transportation structure, reduce costs and increase efficiency in the logistics industry, as well as save energy and bolster environmental protection efforts.
In the future, Wuxi's transportation department will increase the quantity of customized trains to meet the export needs of local manufacturing companies, according to officials.
