Wuxi National Hi-tech District (WND) promoted its biomedical industry in Shanghai's Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, a vibrant center of scientific and technological innovation, on June 17.
WND Party Secretary Jiang Min discussed the current situation of the biomedical industry in the district and called for more high-quality projects to be carried out in WND.
Jiang said that Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, places great importance on the development of the biomedical industry and rolled out a three-year plan to guide its development in April.
WND is a beacon of economic development in Wuxi that pursues technological innovation and is home to over 150 leading biomedical enterprises, including AstraZeneca, WuXi AppTec, Dizal Pharmaceutical, and Jemincare Group.
In 2019, WND's biomedical industrial output was valued at 53.3 billion yuan ($7.5 billion), placing it among China's top 20 biomedical industrial parks.
Sponsored by WND and AstraZeneca, the Wuxi International Life Science Innovation Campus, also known as I-Campus, has attracted over 20 biomedical enterprises, which are promoting global cooperation and innovation in the life science industry, according to Jiang.
Jiang added that WND will provide strong support to biomedical enterprises looking to set up operations there. A total of 500 million yuan is given out each year to provide enterprises with rental support, financing discounts, and talent subsidies.
