The cultural square, covering an area of 10,464 square meters along the Bodu River, will be made up of two branches to show what life is like along the river. Construction is expected to finish in September.
The west square will showcase the history and culture of the Bodu River, the first manmade river in China, while the east square will tell the story of Wu Taibo, the founder of Wu culture, as well as the customs and history of Wu culture.

The Bodu River was built over 3,000 years ago when Wu taught farming techniques to local residents and dug watercourses for irrigation and transportation. The river is still the main vehicle for water transportation in eastern Wuxi.
Meicun sub-district is intended to be a demonstration area for the promotion of traditional culture and the preservation and development of Wu culture.
