The north extension of the elevated highway to Xinxi Road was opened to traffic on March 20, and is expected to promote north-south traffic through the city.
The new elevated highway, with a total length of about 2.9 kilometers, starts from Xihu Road in the south and connects to the Xinxi Road elevated highway. It can shorten the travel time from Xinwu district to Xishan district by about 20 minutes.
Xinxi Road is an important part of Wuxi's urban expressway network. With the new elevated highway, passengers can drive on the Gaolang Road elevated highway to Xinxi Road and then on the expressway toward Changshu.
Construction of the north extension of the elevated highway to Xinxi Road started in September 2019.
