Wuxi National Sensing Innovation Demonstration Park, which was established in Wuxi National Hi-tech District (WND) in 2009, has opened a new chapter in the development of internet of things (IoT) in China.

Over the past decade, the park has brought about great changes in China's IoT industry through its many IoT enterprises and groundbreaking IoT projects.

IoT has become a new engine for economic growth in Wuxi and is widely promoted across the country. WND will continue to push forward the IoT industry by working with surrounding areas, said Wang Jinjian, Party secretary of WND.

WND has played a leading role in the country's IoT development. In recent years, the district has actively promoted the integration of IoT and traditional manufacturing as well as the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, smart city construction, and wisdom medical.

In the past decade, WND has conducted 125 national and provincial application demonstrations focusing on smart environmental protection, WIT120, intelligent transportation, and smart energy, all of which boosted the development of IoT enterprises in WND and contributed to the formation of a complete IoT industrial system. In 2018, the output value of the IoT industry in WND surpassed 160 billion yuan ($22.34 billion), accounting for more than 60 percent of Wuxi's total.

Wang said that WND is leveraging its robust IoT industry to attract more investment and bolster the district's development.

At the same time, WND continues to promote opening-up and seeks innovation resources from across the globe. WND has brought in a series of leading scientific research institutions and scientific and technological innovation platforms, including Plug and Play, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University.

This May, in order to attract more international entrepreneurs, WND announced that it will set up special funds annually to further boost the IoT industry, including at least 500 million yuan for  IoT talent cultivation and 600 million yuan for scientific and technological innovation.
