Science parks, institutes in Tianjin boost BTH integration

To integrate Beijing and Hebei province has become one of the top priorities of Tianjin municipality since 2014, when the national strategy of coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei was initiated. Over the past five years, a number of existing or newly-established technology parks and scientific research institutes in Tianjin have made their own efforts to cooperate with the companies and institutions in other two places to achieve high-quality development and yield good results.

Established on Nov 22, 2016 in Binhai New Area, Tianjin municipality, the Binhai-Zhongguancun innovation demonstration zone has an area of over 90,000 square meters. In collaboration with Beijing's Zhongguancun, China's entrepreneurial and innovative hub, the innovative base committed to build itself into a new incubator and home to scientific start-up companies in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

By the first half of 2019, 319 tech firms had signed contracts with the demonstration zone and about a hundred of them moved there from Beijing.

In cooperation with Binhai New Area, the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University established a research institute in the area on July 20, 2015. It aims to explore a mechanism and operation mode for sustainable high-tech technology transfer, and promote national technology innovation and industrial development in the field of electronics and information technology.

The institute has set up an electronic test and measuring center, large equipment assembly center, AI and big data center, and an innovation center of the advanced optoelectronic chip. All are open to other institutions and enterprises. To date, there are over 100 projects in the incubator pool.

Covering a planned area of 136.45 square kilometers, the tech-city attaches great importance to auto parts manufacturing, high-end equipment manufacturing, biomedicine, medical apparatus and instruments, new materials and new energy.

In the first half of 2019, the technology park attracted 30 cooperative projects from Beijing and three from Hebei province.

Established in October 2016, the research institute is an organization co-funded by private and public capital from Beijing and Tianjin. Located in Huaming Industrial Park, Dongli district, the institute has built itself into an integrated platform for technical research, technology transfer, industry incubation and innovation services.

To date, the institute has converged 63 tech firms centering around the connected vehicle industry on its platform; 44 have moved to Tianjin, such as Tsintel Technology, Istar Space Technology and Zeegine 3D Printing.

Located in Wuqing district, Tianjin, Jingbin Industrial Park is home to over 7,000 companies in its 20-square-kilometer area. It has formed two leading industries, respectively new materials and precision equipment manufacturing. During the last five years, the park has attracted 619 projects from Beijing with total investment up to 28.7 billion yuan.
